Conserving Energy In The Home

Electricity and computers?

I’m trying To Conserve Energy in my home. If I go on my computer 2 or 3x a day (once in the morning and a couple at night) is it cheaper to leave the computer on throughout the day or turn it on and off every time?

The processor consumes the same amount of power whether it is booting or running idle. Currently with new processors and operating systems like Linux support frequency scaling which can reduce power consumption of the processor. Also devices which are not used are automatically suspended saving a lot of power. The monitor eats up more power than the CPU in the whole, so if you are out for a couple of minutes you can switch off the monitor, or suspend the system fully. If you are leaving for long hours, then the sane thing to do is to power down your system, and switch off the supply in the socket, ’cause even open sockets can waste a lot of power.

Lets stop global warming.
