Typically this is heating /air-conditioning – reducing the temp. by 1 degree in the winter (increasing by 1 begree in the summer) will save more than spending hunders of hours educating the staff about turning off lights / PC’s …

You then need tio look at ‘automating’ the power usage .. adjusting the timers on the heating / air-con should be a top priority – most have seperate ‘work day’ and ‘weekend’ settings (but no-one knows how to set the timer for the weekend (so the office pumps out heat on Sunday when no-one is there ) = and make sure it’s some-ones task to adjust the timers when-ever the office is closed (Bank Holidays etc)

Telling / asking people to turn off lights & computers is waste of time .. better is to fit ‘light level’ and ‘motion detectors’ to the lighting system – so when daylight reaches an adequate level some lights (nmeeting rooms etc) automatiaclly tuyrn off .. and the all turn off at eg. normal closing time, unless motion is detected (security guard whatever) and stay off untill some-one turns them on again …

All computer systems should be programmed to go into ‘sleep’ mode if unused during working time … and turn off completly if unused outside working hours (actaully, it’s not a bad security measure to enforce the turning off of computers after working hours .. there have been too many cases of coffice cleaners / security staff using innocent workers ‘left on’ (and left ‘logged in’) PC’s for browsing the porn sites
